A 70-year-old woman was killed, and two other individuals sustained moderate injuries in a four-vehicle collision in Pine Grove, Amador County, on Monday afternoon, December 9, 2024.
Emergency crews were dispatched on Highway 88 and Toyon Road at approximately 12:22 p.m., according to the Amador Fire Protection District.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred when a Toyota traveling eastbound on Highway 88 crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a Buick.
The Toyota then hit the rear of a Nissan stopped in a traffic control area, pushing it into the rear of a Honda. The Toyota overturned onto its roof, ejecting the driver.
The driver of the Toyota, a Volcano resident, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A driver and passenger from the Nissan suffered moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
A driver and passenger from the Buick sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, according to officials.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
