According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash was reported at around 5:15 p.m. The victim, described as a Black man in his early 40s and a resident of Canoga Park, was crossing westbound on De Soto Avenue just north of Gresham Street when a gray or silver southbound vehicle hit him.

The driver failed to stop and fled the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
