A person was killed, and another was hospitalized following a crash involving an alleged DUI driver that caused a semi-truck to overturn on the 60 Freeway in Pomona late Friday, December 6, 2024.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of SR-60 near the SR-71 connector, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Responding officers found two damaged big rigs and a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 SUV involved in the collision.
Investigators determined that the Mercedes, driven recklessly by 32-year-old Guadalupe M. of Chino, veered onto the right shoulder and struck the rear trailer of a parked big rig. The impact caused the SUV to ricochet back into traffic lanes, where it collided with another semi-truck in motion.
The passenger of the Mercedes, identified as 36-year-old Andres M., died from blunt force traumatic injuries. His relationship with the driver remains unknown.
The driver of the Mercedes suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence.
Officers are investigating whether another vehicle was speeding or driving recklessly before striking the semi-truck.
The investigation is ongoing.
