A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on South Ninth Street in south Modesto on Saturday night, November 23, 2024.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian lying dead in the roadway on South Ninth Street, north of Hatch Road. The victim showed “obvious signs of death,” the CHP reported.
CHP officers located the suspected driver, 22-year-old Jasneal H. of Modesto, attempting to leave the scene by entering southbound Highway 99. The vehicle was stopped, and officers confirmed it had struck the pedestrian.
The suspect was arrested on charges of felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not yet been released. The incident remains under investigation.
