An 83-year-old man died after failing to stop for traffic on Highway 41 near Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera County on Friday evening, November 8, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded just before 7:00 p.m. to the scene of a reported three-vehicle collision on Highway 41 south of Children’s Boulevard.
Investigators found that a 2007 GMC Canyon was traveling northbound on Highway 41, followed by a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Behind them was the 83-year-old man, driving a 2002 Honda Accord.
The GMC Canyon slowed and stopped for traffic ahead, and the Chevrolet Tahoe followed suit. However, the driver of the Honda failed to slow down or stop, colliding with the rear of the Chevrolet Tahoe and pushing it into the back of the GMC Canyon.
The 83-year-old driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other two drivers involved sustained minor injuries.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision, and all involved were wearing seatbelts.
