A man sustained leg and head injuries in a crash involving a broken fire hydrant near Blackstone and Rialto Avenues in north Fresno on early Tuesday morning, October 8, 2024.
The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. when the driver reported a tire blowout, causing him to lose control and collide with a fire hydrant, a signpost, and a pedestrian.
The driver, who remained on scene and cooperated with authorities, stated he was unaware he had struck the man until after the incident.
Police reported that alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The injured pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the impacted lane remained closed until the fire hydrant was repaired.
The investigation is ongoing.
