A 60-year-old bicyclist died after being hit by a driver attempting to turn into a driveway in Newark on early Thursday morning, September 19, 2024.
According to city spokesperson Shobna Sharma, the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the 38000 block of Cherry Street.
Newark police and Alameda County Fire crews responded to the scene but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not immediately identified the victim, pending notification of relatives, but confirmed that he was a resident of Tracy. Police reported that the bicyclist was riding south on Cherry Street in the bicycle lane when the collision occurred.
The driver remained at the scene and spoke with police, who did not make an arrest.
