[08-29-2024] 64-Year-Old Woman Killed After Single-Vehicle DUI Crash on Highway 44 in ReddingA 64-year-old woman was killed after a single-vehicle DUI crash in Redding on early Thursday morning, August 29, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on eastbound Highway 44 east of Airport Road just before 1:00 a.m. when a Chevy Equinox veered off the road, collided with a tree, and caught fire. 

Three passengers were in the vehicle at the time. Two passengers managed to escape, but the woman was pinned inside the vehicle. Despite efforts by CHP officers to rescue her, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames, and she tragically died at the scene.

The two other passengers, 59-year-old Robert C. and 37-year-old Ines B. sustained injuries in the crash. The driver, 58-year-old Phillip A. was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
