A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving following a fatal pedestrian crash in the Pacific Beach community of San Diego on Saturday evening, August 24, 2024.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:55 p.m. in the 4200 block of Mission Bay Drive.
A man was running eastbound, mid-block, across the street when a large pickup truck driving southbound on Mission Bay Drive stopped to avoid hitting him.
However, a 23-year-old man driving a southbound 2003 Subaru WRX in the No. 1 lane was unable to see the pedestrian due to the large pickup truck and struck the man with the right front of his vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
