[08-21-2024] 32-Year-Old Man Dies After Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 89A 32-year-old man died after a semi-truck crash in Siskiyou County on early Wednesday morning, August 21, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Highway 89 near the Shasta County border. 

The semi-truck, driven by a 72-year-old man, drifted off the road and sideswiped a tree after the driver fell asleep. The truck then went off an embankment and crashed into several trees.

The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta. The passenger, identified as Amrit S., suffered severe injuries and was transported to Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, where he was pronounced dead at around 3:30 a.m.

The crash did not involve any other vehicles. The case is under investigation by the CHP and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
