[08-17-2024] Four Injured, Two Critically, in Collision Involving Big-Rig and Sedan Near OrcuttFour people were injured, two critically, in a collision involving a big-rig and a sedan near Orcutt, Santa Barbara County on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2024.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the crash occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Telephone Road and Clark Avenue, near the Lake Marie neighborhood east of Highway 101.

Two individuals in a Honda Accord suffered major injuries and had to be extricated from the wreckage, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck. Two other people sustained minor to moderate injuries.

One male patient was transported by AMR ambulance to Santa Maria Airport and subsequently flown by Calstar medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The others who were injured were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.

The names and conditions of the injured parties were not immediately available.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the Honda was allegedly driving recklessly before the collision. The big-rig’s trailer was carrying crude oil, but no spill occurred.

The crash is under investigation by the CHP.
