One person was killed, while two others were injured following a suspected two-vehicle DUI crash in Shingletown, Shasta County, on Friday evening, August 9, 2024.
According to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. along Highway 44 just west of Ally Gold Way.
CHP said that the incident involved a Nissan Frontier traveling westbound on SR-44 that crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of an eastbound GMC Sierra. The resulting head-on collision led to the death of the Nissan driver, identified as Alexander Z., 31, from Oakland.
Medics and traffic officers who arrived at the scene pronounced Alexander Z. deceased. The two passengers in the GMC Sierra, identified as 43-year-old Thomas S. and 38-year-old Jennifer S., were transported to Mercy Medical Center after sustaining major to minor injuries.
Investigators suspect that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The deceased driver’s body will undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
