Published August 12, 2024

Two people were injured after a pickup truck vs. semi-truck collision in Madera County on Sunday evening, August 11, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Avenue 12.

CHP officers said that the driver of the semi-truck made an unsafe lane change, resulting in a collision with the pickup truck. The impact caused both vehicles to crash into the temporary barrier in a construction zone and cross over into the southbound lanes.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. Neither of the two has been named yet.

The crash ended up blocking the northbound side of the highway, resulting in a significant traffic backup. Traffic was diverted to Avenue 12 while crews worked to remove the vehicles, clear debris, and reposition the roadway barriers.

The details are still being investigated. No further information is immediately available.
