One person was killed, while two others were hospitalized after a two-vehicle head-on crash in Fresno County early Saturday morning, August 10, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on State Route 296 just north of Ford Avenue and outside Coalinga.

CHP said a northbound Tesla veered into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and collided with a truck. A passenger in the Tesla was pronounced dead at the scene, while both drivers involved were transported to Community Regional Medical Center with significant injuries.

Authorities are still investigating why the Tesla driver entered the wrong lane. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
