Two people were hospitalized after a pursuit led to a reckless two-vehicle crash in Koreatown, Los Angeles, on Thursday afternoon, August 1, 2024.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision happened around 3:09 p.m. at the intersection of West 5th Street and South Wilton Place.
Authorities stated that a police chase started about 10 miles away in the city of Marina del Rey after receiving a report of a robbery involving a weapon. A dark-colored sedan traveling at about 80 mph along Fifth Street was being chased by the responding officers.
Shortly after, the sedan, with multiple suspects inside, crashed into the side of a white vehicle on Wilton Place, ending the pursuit. The white vehicle violently spun before it was flung onto a sidewalk at one corner of the intersection. At the same time, the suspects’ vehicle also veered out of control and came to a rest on the sidewalk.
The driver of the white vehicle, described only as a woman, was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. The extent of the injuries remains unclear.
Meanwhile, at least one of the suspects, who appeared to be the driver of the sedan, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. A passenger in the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the scene but was taken into custody by the police.
It is unknown if the suspects’ vehicle was stolen. Drugs and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
No further information was released. Investigations are ongoing.
