A 69-year-old woman was killed after a two-vehicle collision involving a bicyclist in Huntington Beach on Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2024.

According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the fatal accident happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Goldenwest Street and Rio Vista Drive intersection.

HBPD said the incident involved a black 2005 Dodge Durango, a red 2004 Ford F250, and a 69-year-old female bicyclist. Initial reports indicate that the Dodge driver, a 31-year-old man, was about to turn left into a driveway from southbound Goldenwest Street. At the same time, the Ford, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was traveling northbound on the same street using the No. 3 lane.

For some reason, the Ford crashed into the Dodge while it was turning left. The crash’s impact reportedly threw the Dodge eastward, where it struck the bicyclist who was reportedly moving along the east side of Goldenwest Street.

The female biker, whose name and place of origin were not disclosed, suffered severe injuries as a result of the collision and was rushed to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead shortly after. Authorities have yet to confirm any injuries from the two drivers involved.

It is not immediately known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The investigation into the deadly accident is ongoing and is being handled by the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
