A 43-year-old man was killed following a pedestrian vs. vehicle collision in San Diego on Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened at about 2:38 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 just north of Cesar E. Chavez Parkway.

CHP stated that the man was walking along the number 4 lane of southbound I-5 when he was struck by a pickup truck. Moments after hitting the pedestrian, another vehicle reportedly struck the pickup truck.

The victim was later identified as Richard N., a 43-year-old White male of unknown residency. The responding officials confirmed his death without medical intervention. As per the reports, he died due to blunt force trauma on the head and the torso.

There is no word yet of any injuries in the second incident involving the pickup truck that hit Richard N. and the other vehicle. None of the drivers that got involved were identified.

It is not immediately known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the deadly crash.
