Two people were injured following a fiery four-vehicle chain collision in Los Angeles on Monday night, July 1, 2024.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the serious crash happened at about 8:15 p.m. in the Valley Glen neighborhood, around 13100 block of Sherman Way, near Ethel Avenue.
Authorities said that an unspecified car struck the rear end of a parked vehicle at a curb, damaging four cars in total. How the other two vehicles came into play is still unclear. The car that kickstarted the chain-reaction crash burst into flames moments later.
Two men in the now-burning vehicle reportedly freed themselves on their own even before the LAFD could arrive. Firefighters were said to be able to contain the flames in the first two vehicles that collided.
The two men were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of them was listed in critical condition, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was in fair condition. Apart from them, no other injuries were reported.
It is not immediately known if alcohol, drugs, or speed played a role in the fiery vehicular incident. The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division is now handling the investigation into the collision.
Further information was not immediately available.
