An 85-year-old woman was killed after a two-vehicle collision in La Mesa on Friday afternoon, June 14, 2024.
According to the La Mesa Police Department, the deadly vehicular crash happened at about 1:33 p.m. at the intersection of Maple Avenue and University Avenue.
Police said the elderly woman was driving westbound on University Avenue in a Cadillac SUV when she slowed down to make a left turn onto Maple Avenue. For some reason, a Ford sedan heading eastbound on University Avenue struck the Cadillac, severely injuring the woman.
Responding medical personnel administered lifesaving measures to the badly injured victim while transporting her to the Sharp Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. She died moments after arriving at the medical facility. The deceased was later identified as Madeline J. from La Mesa.
It is not immediately known if the driver of the Ford sedan was injured in the accident.
Additional information was not available at this time. The police are still investigating the possible involvement of drugs, alcohol, or speed in the fatal crash.
