A man was killed, and a woman was injured following a two-vehicle collision in Kern County on Friday morning, June 21, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:05 a.m. at Famoso Porterville Highway and Cecil Avenue.
Authorities stated the Honda driver, identified as a 23-year-old McFarland woman, was driving southbound on Famoso Porterville Highway and approaching Cecil Avenue at approximately 60 to 65 mph. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Richgrove man, who was driving a Toyota, made a northbound turn onto Famoso Porterville Highway, directly in the path of the Honda.
As a result, the Toyota crashed into the Honda, resulting in significant vehicle damage. The Toyota driver was declared dead at the scene, while the Honda driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Kern Medical. There is no word yet on the condition of the injured victim.
It is unknown whether drugs, alcohol, or speeding played a role in the collision. As of this writing, the cause of the crash remains unclear.
