An elderly male driver was killed, while five others were injured following a two-vehicle crash in Ventura County on Saturday evening, June 8, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal traffic accident happened at about 6:20 p.m. around Bardsdale Avenue and South Ventura Street, just south of Fillmore.

CHP said the collision involved a 2002 Honda Accord driven by an 86-year-old man and a Jeep with five occupants. As per the investigators, the Honda was traveling southbound on Ventura Street, approaching the stop sign intersection with Bardsdale Avenue. At the same time, the Jeep was reportedly going east on Bardsdale.

For some reason, the elderly Honda driver entered the intersection directly into the Jeep’s path despite the stop sign. The Jeep driver tried to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. It broadsided the Honda on the passenger side, damaging both vehicles significantly and injuring multiple people.

The 86-year-old driver was taken to Ventura County Medical Center after sustaining major injuries. Hours later, at about 10:00 p.m. the same day, he reportedly succumbed to his injuries and died. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, the Jeep driver and its four passengers all suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were not taken to the hospital. None of them were identified at this time as well.

The authorities are still gathering all the necessary details to determine the true cause of the deadly incident. At this time, alcohol and drugs are not seen as possible factors.

Additional information was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
