According to the Fresno Police Department, the fatal accident occurred at about 1:17 p.m. at Stanislaus Street and Van Ness Avenue.

Upon arriving at the crash site, police found the bicyclist down with major injuries. He was then rushed to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment but was later pronounced dead at the facility. The victim was identified the following day, Monday, as 54-year-old Fresno native Gabriel O.

Initial reports suggest that the bicyclist may have been struck by a vehicle after making an unsafe turn. The vehicle’s driver reportedly stayed at the scene, helped the victim, and cooperated with the police. There is no word yet on whether the driver was injured.

The circumstances behind the crash remain under investigation. It is believed that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the incident.
