A 23-year-old man was killed, while two others were injured after a two-vehicle head-on collision in East Oakdale, Stanislaus County, on Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. along Orange Blossom Road, west of Wamble Road.
CHP said that the 23-year-old unnamed man from Ceres was driving eastbound on Orange Blossom Road in a Ford Mustang at an allegedly high rate of speed. As per the initial reports, he swerved across the solid double yellow lines in the roadway to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of him that was about to turn right. This maneuver proved deadly as the Mustang struck an oncoming Jeep head-on.
The Mustang driver, whose identity was undisclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep driver, only identified as a woman, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Her 4-year-old passenger, meanwhile, sustained minor injuries.
CHP is still figuring out if the deceased driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. They have since proved that the Jeep driver was sober when the accident happened.
Currently, no additional information is available. Police work is underway.
