[05-28-2024] One Person Killed, Two Others Injured Following Three-Vehicle Crash Along Highway 12One person was killed, while two others were injured following a three-vehicle crash in San Joaquin County on Tuesday afternoon, May 28, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred at about 4:10 p.m. along Highway 12, just west of Guard Road.

CHP reported that the incident involved a Volkswagen Passat, a Honda Accord, and a Toyota Prius. The Volkswagen and Honda were said to be going in opposite directions when the Volkswagen suddenly crossed the double yellow lines and drove into the opposing lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Honda.

Soon after, a Toyota also slammed into the two cars. While the first two cars that crashed remained on the roadway, the Toyota went barrelling into a nearby ditch.

The driver of the Volkswagen died as a result of the incident, while the driver of the Honda suffered major injuries. The Toyota driver, meanwhile, sustained minor injuries.

CHP confirmed that all three drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. None of them have been identified yet.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a role in it.

No further details were disclosed at this time. Police work is underway.
