[05-28-2024] Female Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit by Vehicle Near TracyA female pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle just outside Tracy early Tuesday morning, May 28, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened around 1:00 a.m. along 11th Street.

Officers said that the pedestrian was walking on the shoulder west of Cabe Road when, for some reason, she suddenly walked right into the path of a vehicle heading down 11th Street.

It was a 70-year-old Newman resident who was driving the vehicle that collided with the pedestrian, throwing her onto the edge of the south roadway.

Officers pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name, age, and place of origin were not available at this time. CHP believes that the deceased was a member of the unhoused community.

The elderly driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. It is not yet known whether the driver was injured.

The official cause of the pedestrian vs. vehicle accident remains under investigation.
