A passenger was seriously injured following a single-vehicle DUI collision near Sonora on Wednesday afternoon, May 22, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Jamestown Road near Ratto Road.
CHP said that a 2024 Kia Forte driven by 21-year-old Mya V. from Groveland made an unsafe turn approaching the intersection, veering off the roadway and onto the right shoulder, where it crashed into a power pole. The female driver had a passenger at the time of the incident later identified as Zachary B. from Tuolumne.
Upon arrival, officers noticed that Mya V. was exhibiting signs of intoxication. She was later confirmed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was eventually arrested. There is no word yet on whether or not she was injured as a result of the incident.
Her passenger, meanwhile, sustained serious injuries and was transported via ground ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora Hospital. The current condition of Zachary B. is unclear at the moment of this writing.
Felony DUI charges have now been filed against the drunk driver, which includes the possibility of serious bodily injury.
