[05-19-2024] At Least Two People Injured Following Multi-Vehicle Collision at Oceanwide PlazaAt least two people were injured following a multi-vehicle collision in downtown Los Angeles on early Sunday morning, May 19, 2024. 

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision happened around 3:30 a.m. at Oceanwide Plaza, near 12th and Figueroa streets. 

Authorities stated that a female officer was either inside or near the vehicle at the time when a man stole a Los Angeles Police Department patrol cruiser and drove away. She was reportedly dragged by the moving vehicle and suffered injuries. 

The incident led to the pursuit of other officers to the stolen patrol unit. The suspect sped away northbound on Figueroa Street, colliding with at least two vehicles at the 8th Street junction before crashing into a pole. He then attempted to flee the area but was shortly captured.

Two civilians sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for immediate treatment.

The area around 8th and Figueroa was closed for many hours as authorities investigated the incident, interviewed witnesses, and began clearing the wreckage and debris.

No further information was released. The investigation continues.
