One person was killed, while another was injured following a fiery single-vehicle crash in Fremont early Tuesday morning, May 21, 2024.
According to the Fremont Police Department, the deadly accident happened at about 12:31 a.m. around the busy intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Thornton Avenue near American High School.
FPD said that a vehicle occupied by two people crashed into a pole and a nearby tree before fully being engulfed in flames. One of the occupants was reportedly pulled from the burning vehicle while the other was trapped inside.
The surviving occupant of the now-burnt car was taken to the hospital after sustaining unspecified injuries. The other was pronounced dead as a result of the incident. Neither of the two people involved were identified as of yet.
All lanes of Fremont Boulevard, from Thornton Avenue to Peralta Boulevard, were closed for several hours as police investigated the scene.
Additional information was not immediately available. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
