According to the California Highway Patrol, the traffic incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Oak Avenue and A Street.

The crash involved a pickup truck with a Wilbur-Ellis logo on the side and a Galt Joint Unified School District bus with 20 students onboard. The circumstances behind the incident remain unclear, but the bus is said to have struck a power pole nearby as a result of the initial crash.

CHP stated that the bus driver was transported to a nearby hospital for back pain. The bus driver’s name, age, and place of origin were not released at this time.

It is said that the majority of the students inside the bus were already evacuated by the time the police arrived. However, some remained on the scene for first aid after complaining of pain themselves. They were released to their parents immediately after receiving on-scene medical treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck that collided with the school bus was later identified as 66-year-old Alfredo R. from Galt. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

No further details were immediately available. There is an ongoing investigation by the CHP.
