Two drivers were killed following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 68, Monterey County, on Friday afternoon, May 10, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 4:44 p.m. on Highway 68 near Spreckels Boulevard.
Authorities stated that a gray Mazda CX9 was traveling east on Highway 6 near Spreckels Boulevard at an unknown speed. For unclear reasons, the driver veered to the left, straight onto the grass median, and crashed into a sign.
Despite what happened, the Mazda continued approaching the wrong way along westbound lanes where it collided head-on with a white Honda CRV.
The driver of Mazda, identified as 64-year-old Pascasio D. of Salinas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the Honda driver was transported to the hospital, where she also died. Police identified the Honda driver as 52-year-old Bridget P. of Salinas.
Officials said there were no passengers in both vehicles. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
The crash remains under investigation. Further details regarding the incident are yet to be released by the investigations.
