One person was killed after a two-vehicle speeding collision in Turlock on Tuesday morning, May 7, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the traffic incident occurred at about 9:40 a.m. along southbound Highway 99, just north of Lander Avenue.
Initial investigation suggested that a 26-year-old man from Turlock was driving a 2010 Mazda sedan south on the No. 1 lane of Highway 99 at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2022 Ford SUV in the same lane.
It is said that the Mazda clipped the left rear of the Ford while attempting to pass. This caused it to lose control and cross all lanes of traffic moving toward the west shoulder of the highway, where it overturned multiple times.
The driver of the Mazda was ejected from his vehicle, critically injuring him. He died moments later after being taken to Doctors Medical Center. The Ford driver, only identified as a 28-year-old woman from San Jose, was reportedly uninjured.
Currently, it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.
No further information was immediately available. The investigation continues.
