[04-14-2024] Ventura County, CA – Injuries Reported Following Multi-Vehicle Crash Caused by Drunk Wrong-Way Driver Near CamarilloSeveral injuries were reported following a multi-vehicle crash caused by a drunk, wrong-way driver near Camarillo just after midnight on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the massive incident occurred at about 12:05 a.m. on the 101 Freeway near Camarillo Springs Road.

CHP said that they initially received reports of a wrong-way driver causing trouble along 101 Freeway by traveling southbound using the northbound lanes. 

Not long after, the suspect vehicle, a 2008 Honda Civic, caused a large crash, striking multiple other vehicles head-on. Reports indicate that the accident involved a total of 11 cars.

CHP confirmed that several people were injured in the multi-vehicle collision. The first vehicle the wrong-way vehicle struck, a 2016 Honda Civic, sustained significant damage. Its driver had to be saved from the wreckage after getting trapped before being transported to Los Robles Hospital. The extent of the other injuries was not immediately available.

The wrong-way driver was later identified as 24-year-old Luis C. from Santa Barbara. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after being hospitalized for injuries to an undisclosed extent.

No further details were available at this time. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the massive incident.
