According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Niles Street, east of Vale Street.

Reports indicate that a Kia traveling east hit a woman crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk.

The victim was taken to Kern Medical with major injuries. She was pronounced dead the next day at about 2:31 a.m.

The two people inside the Kia were unharmed. The identity of the deceased victim has yet to be released.

The authorities dismissed alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal collision. Investigations are ongoing.
