[09-06-2023] Fresno County, CA – 11 Roosevelt Students Injured After Pickup Truck Crashed Into Bus Stop on Cedar and Tulare Avenues

11 students of Roosevelt High School were injured after a pickup truck crashed into a bus stop in Fresno on Wednesday afternoon, September 6, 2023.

According to the Fresno Police Department, Fresno Fire Department, and American Ambulance, the crash was reported around 3:26 p.m. on Cedar and Tulare Avenues.

Authorities stated that the vehicle slammed into an FAX bus stop near Roosevelt High School, causing harm to 11 students. The worst injury was a fractured leg, but none were life-threatening.

The victims were transported to Community Regional Medical Center, St. Agnes Medical Center, and Clovis Community Medical Center for treatment, where some have been discharged.

The suspected driver, a 16-year-old Roosevelt student, fled the scene. At the Ventura and Orange Avenues intersection, an officer pulled the vehicle over. It was discovered that he had a 14-year-old sister riding with him and that their mother escorted them.

After complaining of pain, the 16-year-old was taken to a hospital. He was charged with felony hit-and-run, DUI, and driving without a license. It is suspected that the driver was under the influence of marijuana. An arrest warrant is being procured to administer a blood test.

In addition, the mother was also charged with assisting and abetting the crime. The sister was released to her father without charges. The identity details of the involved parties were not disclosed.

There is an ongoing investigation. It is undetermined how the teen got marijuana, and he has no records with the police.
