[09-06-2023] Merced County, CA – Pedestrian Woman Killed Following Hit-and-Run Collision on R Street

A pedestrian woman was killed after a hit-and-run collision in Merced on Wednesday morning, September 6, 2023.

According to Merced Police Department Sgt. Nathan M., the incident occurred in the area of R Street between Loughborough Drive and Buena Vista Drive at around 5:31 a.m.

MPD officers responded to a traffic accident after passing motorists saw a woman lying on the road. When police arrived, they discovered the pedestrian on the ground outside a crosswalk with injuries from being hit by a vehicle.

Authorities stated that medical personnel performed life-saving procedures on the victim but failed. The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Officials said the driver who hit the victim was nowhere to be found. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle to be a full-size pickup truck.
