[08-28-2023] Imperial County, CA – Two Construction Workers Injured Following Loose Boulder Incident Near Boulder Park

Two construction workers were injured by falling boulders that hit them near Boulder Park, Imperial County, on Monday, August 28, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Mountain Spring Road, just off Interstate 8.

Caltrans representative Steve W. said they have been checking for and removing loose boulders on the interstate. A boulder hit two contractors while they were working.

One victim was taken to a local hospital via airlift for treatment of broken bones, while the other victim suffered cuts and lacerations on their body.

No further information was released regarding the identities of the victims or what events led up to the incident, pending an investigation.
