[08-13-2023] Imperial County, CA – Several People Injured Following Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway 86

Several people were injured following a two-vehicle collision in Imperial County on a Wednesday morning, August 13, 2023.

According to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 4:11 a.m. on Highway 86 near 72nd Avenue while a deputy sheriff was on patrol.

Authorities stated that the crash caused one vehicle to halt in the middle of the northbound lane while the second vehicle rested on the east shoulder of the highway. The sheriff immediately responded to the incident and blocked a section of the road to caution ongoing traffic.

The first vehicle that halted in the middle of the highway caught on fire, and the sheriff rushed to extricate one male, two females, and a young child who were all trapped inside due to the wreckage of the car.

All passengers were safely extricated from the vehicle before it became completely engulfed in flames.  The condition and the number of passengers inside the other involved vehicle were not stated.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
