A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in San Diego on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 6:40 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5 south of Sassafras Street.
CHP said an unidentified male pedestrian was struck by a Toyota Prius within the northbound traffic lanes of Interstate 5, sustaining major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities stated that the driver of the Prius remained at the location and cooperated with investigators.
CHP said a toxicology report will be completed through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The pedestrian’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
