A two-vehicle collision temporarily shut down a section of Highway 108 in Sonora on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the Walmart store in Sonora.
One of the vehicles, a sedan, rolled over and caught fire about 40 feet from the highway. All occupants were able to escape the burning vehicle.
Emergency crews closed the highway from the Mono Way ramps to the South Washington Street and Lime Kiln Road intersection.
At least one person sustained injuries and was airlifted to a Valley hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No further details are available at this time.
