A head-on collision in Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, resulted in one fatality and the arrest of an SUV driver on Monday evening, December 23, 2024.
According to the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, the crash occurred at approximately 8:04 p.m. on Highway 18 at Quinnault Road.
Emergency responders arrived to find a dark-colored Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and a 2016 Honda Civic with significant damage.
The SUV driver, a Hispanic male, was found limping on the side of the road and was later taken into custody. Witnesses reported slurred speech from the man.
The driver of the Honda Civic, a Hispanic woman, was unresponsive and trapped in the vehicle. Despite attempts to assist, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of the crash.
