According to the Hayward Police Department, officers responded to a report of a man down in the roadway at approximately 6:00 a.m. They found the pedestrian suffering from injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities believe the driver responsible fled the scene before a passerby discovered the victim.
