A 75-year-old woman, identified as Elvira C. of Compton, was fatally struck by a vehicle after falling in a crosswalk in Long Beach on Friday afternoon, December 13, 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of East Greenleaf and Long Beach Boulevards, north of the 91 Freeway.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, a 2009 Chevrolet HHR made a left turn from East Greenleaf onto Long Beach Boulevard and hit the pedestrian, who had fallen in a marked crosswalk.
Paramedics and sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities stated that speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving were not factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
