[12-01-2025] Modesto Man Killed After Being Struck by SUV on Lake Road East of Meier Road in HickmanA 39-year-old Modesto man was struck and killed by an SUV in Hickman, Stanislaus County, early Monday morning, December 1, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported around 4:40 a.m. on Lake Road just east of Meier Road.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a Chevrolet SUV with front-end damage and a pedestrian suffering major injuries. The pedestrian died at the scene. 

CHP identified the driver as 70-year-old Nazario B. of Atwater, who was not injured. Investigators said Nazario was driving a 2014 Chevrolet SUV eastbound on Lake Road when he encountered the pedestrian walking ahead in the same lane. 

Nazario attempted to avoid the pedestrian by turning left, but the pedestrian also moved left, leading to an impact with the SUV’s right front end. CHP said Nazario was wearing a seatbelt and was not suspected of driving under the influence. It remained unclear whether the pedestrian was under the influence.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s name once family is notified. The investigation is ongoing.
