Two people were hospitalized after a head-on collision on River Road near Cleveland Avenue in Oakdale early Thursday morning, November 27, 2025.
According to the Modesto Fire Department, crews responded shortly after midnight and found two vehicles that had gone off the roadway into an orchard.
One of the cars struck a tree, and both vehicles sustained significant damage. Officials said the westbound vehicle lost control, went off the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the center divider, and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Two occupants of the second car sustained moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
Authorities said the driver of the westbound vehicle fled the scene on foot, heading east toward the river. No details about that driver have been released.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
