[11-27-2024] One Dead, One Injured After Suspected DUI Crash on Jim Savage Road North of ReedleyA suspected DUI crash north of Reedley resulted in the death of one man and injuries to another on Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. at Jim Savage Road and Vino Avenue when a vehicle traveling westbound at high speed veered off the road, struck an irrigation pipe, and rolled into a field, colliding with several trees.

CHP Officer Mike Salas reported that both occupants, men in their late teens to early 20s, were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Two nearby farm workers witnessed the incident and rushed to help. The survivor reportedly asked one worker to call his mother, who arrived shortly after. The mother revealed that the two men were best friends.

While in custody, the survivor allegedly became aggressive and attacked two officers, biting one. He now faces charges, including assaulting a police officer.

The crash remains under investigation, and further updates have not been released.
