[11-25-2025] Two Drivers Severely Injured After Head-On Crash on Highway 43 South of I-5Two drivers were severely injured after a head-on collision in Kern County on Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 9:22 a.m. on Highway 43 south of Interstate 5.

Preliminary findings indicated that a 31-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna southbound on Highway 43 and attempted to pass another vehicle at an unsafe speed. At the same time, a 26-year-old Taft woman was driving a 2018 BMW X1 northbound on Highway 43 when the Toyota collided with the BMW head-on. 

CHP said the Toyota driver was ejected during the crash, and the BMW driver was pinned inside her vehicle until crews from the Kern County Fire Department rescued her.

Both drivers sustained severe injuries. CHP said it was not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
