One pedestrian was killed, and another was injured after being struck by a vehicle in South Bakersfield on early Sunday morning, November 17, 2024.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident at 1:09 a.m. near Highway 99 and Houghton Road, where two pedestrians were found to have been hit by a vehicle.
One person was declared dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
The identities of the victims have not been released, and it remains unclear why the pedestrians were on the freeway.
