A tragic boating accident off the coast of Redondo Beach left one person dead and five others hospitalized on Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division reported that they received calls about the overturned vessel approximately two miles from Avenue C.
Rescue teams from the Redondo Beach Fire Department and LACoFD arrived to find five individuals clinging to the side of the capsized boat.
While the five victims were successfully pulled from the water, rescue teams could not initially locate a sixth individual who had been on board. A Los Angeles County dive team later found the unidentified person deceased inside the vessel.
The five survivors, believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30, were taken to the hospital, but their conditions were not immediately known.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department taking control of the inquiry.
The boat was towed to King Harbor, where it remained as of Sunday evening. Further details have not been released.
