A fatal rollover crash involving a tanker truck claimed one life and injured two others in Los Angeles late Saturday night, November 2, 2024.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the accident, which occurred around 10:55 p.m. on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway at Manchester Boulevard resulted in the spillage of 500 to 1,000 gallons of aviation fuel onto the road.
Emergency responders discovered one person deceased beneath the overturned tanker. According to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, the tanker driver left the scene independently and was taken to a hospital by private transport. A 30-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital by paramedics, sustaining minor injuries.
Firefighters worked to control the fuel spill by using a redwood plug to stop the leak and drilled holes into the tanker for fuel offloading. CalTrans crews assisted with containment measures while private contractors prepared the tanker for removal. The body of the deceased victim was recovered with assistance from the L.A. County Medical Examiner.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the area, urging motorists to find alternate routes as cleanup efforts continued between Slauson and Rosecrans avenues.
