[10-17-2024] Woman Killed Near Santa Monica Pier by DUI Driver in SUVA woman was killed after being run over by a DUI suspect driving an SUV near the Santa Monica Pier on Thursday night, October 17, 2024.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. when authorities responded to reports of a vehicle stuck in the sand. 

Upon arrival, officers found the woman trapped under an Infiniti SUV, which had reportedly been driving in circles at high speeds on the beach.

The woman believed to be homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene by Santa Monica Fire Department personnel. 

Authorities said the driver, a 21-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
